Sometimes it’s hard to really put your finger on what it is that’s truly setting you back. Sometimes it’s hard to shake off whatever it is that’s getting in the way. Coaching helps you work it out and find ways to maximize your potential. Sure you can work on this on your own and yes, I can’t do the performance for you, ultimately it’s up to you, but are you comfortable with leaving it up to chance? We all need a step up and someone in our corner to guide us efficiently to where we need to be. Coaching opens the door for you to maximize your potential onstage.
Performance coaching has been around for about 20 years. It’s built on the studies of high performers and how they achieve greatness in their individual fields. Tim Gallway, an expert in sport coaching, defines performance coaching as “…unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance. It’s helping them to learn rather than teaching them”.
There’s a lot to learn from sports performance coaching that we can apply to ourselves as musicians. We can look at how we prepare ourselves mentally and physically for our performances and what we might unknowingly be doing that gets in our way of achieving our best, fearless performances.
The Coaching Process
Coaching is a process, a partnership where you work with a coach on taking strides to move you towards your goals. A coach can keep you accountable to attaining those goals and help you evaluate your progress. We’re not psychologists or therapists who delve into past issues to find closure, coaches work on moving you forward while acknowledging and challenging what’s holding you back. It’s up to you as the ‘coachee’ (or the one being coached) to decide on the action and take the next steps.
I look forward to getting to know you and helping you become fearless. Get in touch through the contact page and I’ll give you the details and answer your questions.
